About our food photographer:
Judy Doherty is an award winning chef and award-winning photographer. Judy has an amazing talent for arranging food and making it look delicious for the camera. Food and photographs have been her whole life for over 3 decades and she remains passionate in delivering success to any campaign or project. She is not happy until her clients are happy. Her culinary knowledge and skill is the key to having creative food and beverage photos that are relevant and up to date. Her ideas come from her experience, research on world top chefs, the SF Bay food world, and various dreams that pop in her head whenever she visits an open market and sees fresh ingredients. She is able to style work and to work effectively with any team to finish a stunning, delicious result.
I create art with food and then photograph it in an evocative, dramatic manner. The materials I use consist of fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein foods that are fresh, in season, and available in local markets. I explore ways to present the food, starting with food that is readily available and then proceed with ideas on how to present, prepare, and photograph it. The works of master chefs and artists, past and present, inspire my presentations. Sometimes I work in my studio with elaborate arrangements, on light tables, or in natural light pathways.
My presentations might be based on global foods, phytochemicals, food groups, or seasonal ingredients such as berries. The outcome for which I strive is an artistic photograph that is inspirational to the viewer, and brings him or her a reverent and new way of looking at food. It is a celebration and expression of food as it nourishes the body, mind, and soul!
I am an award winning chef who graduated 2nd in my class from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I have won numerous awards with my photographs in the Palo Alto Camera Club plus 2nd place overall in a recent Pacific Art League exhibition. I am enrolled in the Post Baccalaureate Visual Art Certificate Program with UC Berkeley Extension.
